DECLARATION OFFICER
INTRODUCTION
The Tanzania Episcopal Conference (T.E.C) as a
permanent institution is the assembly of the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania whereby,
according to the norm of law, certain pastoral functions are jointly exercised
on behalf of Christ’s faithful in view of promoting the greater good which the
Church offers to all people, especially through forms and programmes of her
apostolate which are fittingly adapted to circumstance of our time and country.
CARITAS TANZANIA
Caritas Tanzania is a charitable
wing of the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania (TEC). Caritas Tanzania is supporting
the vulnerable communities through humanitarian, gender, community development,
relief and emergency interventions. Caritas Tanzania also operates a Clearing
ad Forwarding Agency Services to catholic diocesans throughout the country.
POSITION OBJECTIVES
The Declaration Officer works in the unit of
Clearing and Forwarding and Bondage Warehouse to undertake all declaration
procedures, bonds management as well as advice management on correct TRA
tariffs and most preferred course of action to overcome technicalities that may
arise in the declaration or clearing operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES,
DUTIES AND TASKS
1.
Tracking
shipments, updating database on arrival
of information and ensure correct shipping documentation is in place well in
advance
2.
Undertakes
all declaration procedures for imports and exports
3.
Application
of import declaration form (IDF)
- Advices management on correct TRA tariffs and most preferred course of action to overcome technicalities that may arise in the declaration or clearing operations
- Bonds management including updating stock database and cancelation procedures
- Follows up correspondences between various statutory bodies and parties and update management and customers on the same
- Ensures correct use of TRA tariffs
- Ensures that correct values are used during declaration and related procedures to avoid losses that may occur as a result of penalties
- Establishes and maintains a working relationship with customs office
- Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIRED ESSENTIAL SKILLS
AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
Minimum of a Diploma
or Degree in clearing and forwarding from a recognised training institution
Experience
·
A
minimum of five years of experience in
clearing and forwarding agency
activities
·
Fully
conversant with TANCIS system to make entries for all imports, exports and required
clearances
·
Comprehensive
knowledge of HS code and a high degree of accuracy in identifying and using the
correct HS codes
·
Computer
literacy to effectively operate internet,
core Microsoft office and online management systems
·
Excellent
administration skills to ensure procedures are being followed
·
Attention
to details ensuring the right information is captured and communicated in a
timely manner
Knowledge
·
Must
have good knowledge of government procedures
and customs laws relating to imports, exports, transit goods for air sea
and road freight cargo and licence
renewal application procedures
·
Possess
a high degree of integrity, honesty and
confidentiality
·
Ability
to maintain good working relations with all stakeholders
·
Good
interpersonal and communication skills
·
Flexible
in work habits schedules
·
Fluent
in English and Swahili
